Overview
You can now assign issues in Linear to Copilot cloud agent, our asynchronous, autonomous background agent.
Details
When you assign a Linear issue to Copilot, it will:
- Analyze the issue contents and open a draft pull request.
- Work independently in its own ephemeral development environment, powered by GitHub Actions.
- Stream progress updates back to your Linear activity timeline.
- Request a pull request review from you when the work is complete.
What’s new
You now have more control over how the agent runs, right from your Linear workspace:
- Choose a model: Pick which model Copilot uses for a task.
- Use a custom agent: Point Copilot at a custom agent from your repository to match your team’s workflows.
- Set the base and working branch: Control which branch the pull request targets and which branch Copilot commits to.
- Steer a session: Mention Copilot in a comment to give it new instructions while it works.
Set these per issue, or apply them across your workspace or team with Linear agent guidance.
Get started
- Install the GitHub Copilot for Linear app from the GitHub Marketplace. You’ll need organization owner permissions in GitHub and workspace admin privileges in Linear.
- Read the Linear integration documentation to set up agent guidance, models, custom agents, and branches.
Copilot cloud agent is available with Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise.
