Overview
Claude Opus 5, Anthropic’s newest Opus model, is now available in GitHub Copilot. It is designed for complex, long-running coding tasks that require careful reasoning, effective tool use, and reliable execution across multiple steps.
In our early testing, Opus 5 showed strong performance on agentic coding workflows, including autonomous code changes, regression verification, and tasks that require coordinating multiple tools. The model was especially effective at making targeted changes, validating its work, and reducing unnecessary execution overhead on complex tasks.
The model includes enhanced safeguards for high-harm cyber content. These safeguards may block some cyber-related or security-adjacent requests. If a request is blocked, try rephrasing it with additional benign context or select another available model.

Claude Opus 5 is billed at provider API list price under usage-based billing. See GitHub Copilot’s pricing for models and requests for details.
Availability in GitHub Copilot
Claude Opus 5 will be available to Copilot Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users. You’ll be able to select the model in the model picker in:
- Visual Studio Code
- Visual Studio
- Copilot CLI
- GitHub Copilot cloud agent
- GitHub Copilot app
- github.com
- GitHub Mobile iOS and Android
- JetBrains
- Xcode
- Eclipse
Rollout will be gradual. Check back soon if you don’t see it yet.
Enabling access
Copilot Enterprise and Copilot Business plan administrators must enable the Claude Opus 5 policy in Copilot settings.
